Enrolment

Standard enrolments

Rose Bay Secondary College is an inclusive community school drawing its students from local primary schools in its drawing area including Bellevue Hill, Bondi, Bondi Beach, Bronte, Double Bay, Glenmore Road, Paddington, Rose Bay, Waverley, Vaucluse and Woollahra public schools.

Local enrolment area

Most schools have designated local enrolment areas. The School Finder shows our local enrolment area. Note: local enrolment areas are subject to change.

Priority is given to families residing within the enrolment area.

Applications for enrolment in Year 7 are made in primary schools. Parents and carers can nominate RBSC as their school of choice.

Application for enrolment in Years 8-12 can be made any time through the principal.

At the enrolment interview with the principal, please bring your child's birth certificate or passport, records of previous educational experiences, reports and other relevant documents including proof of address.

An enrolment package, appropriate to the stage and year will be provided detailing requirements and subjects available. Special consideration can be made at this time.

How to enrol

Contact us when you’re ready to enrol your child in our school. You may need to attend an interview with the principal. There you can discuss any medical conditions or other special circumstances before your child starts school. We may also complete a risk assessment on the enrolment.

For more information, visit high school enrolment.

Download an application to enrol (PDF 5.9MB).

The application form must be completed in English. However, a translated application to enrol may help you to fill out the form in English.

Non-local enrolments

As outlined in the department’s enrolment policy, our school may accept enrolments from outside our local enrolment area if places are available.

We will assess applications for non-local enrolment on a case-by-case basis.

Australian citizens or permanent residents living WITHIN the designated drawing area

Parents/guardians of students living within the designated drawing areas should contact the office to make an appointment for a pre-enrolment interview.

Applicants must submit the following:

  1. Proof of Residential Address within our drawing area - You will be required to provide documents that add up to a minimum of 100 points. (Refer to the 100 points checklist). These documents must be in the family name for the current residential address and must be originals (and please have a copy of each document) or certified true copies. In some circumstances the Enrolment Panel may request additional documentation to support enrolment applications.
  2. Student Identity Documents - Birth Certificate (only if one parent was an Australian citizen or permanent resident when the student was born) otherwise an Australian passport or passport and citizenship documents and relevant visa documents.
  3. Previous School Reports – copies of two most recent school reports
  4. Medical Details and Health Conditions
  5. Documents that confirm medical conditions experienced by the student and a current medical plan from a General Practitioner. This includes Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Allergies and all serious medical conditions. The Department of Education requires parents to provide full disclosure of all medical conditions. Parents must contact the Head Teacher Wellbeing to discuss medical conditions and appropriate documentation. (Please note that the Department of Education requires all students with anaphylaxis to carry their Epipen auto-injector wrapped with their current ASCIA Anaphylaxis Personal Plan with them at all times at school. The plan should be wrapped securely around the Epipen.)
  6. Family Court orders (if applicable)

Australian citizens or permanent residents living OUTSIDE the designated drawing area

A non-local enrolment is a student whose permanent residence is beyond the designated local enrolment area.  Please refer to School Finder

Parents or carers living outside the school's designated local area may apply to enrol their child(ren) at the school.  Places for non-local applicants will be considered in the light of whole school and each academic year's enrolment figures

Enrolment in the selective stream

Rose Bay also has selective classes in years 7 to 10.

Year 7 enrolments are offered to students who are successful at the selective schools test conducted early in the final year of primary school. This test and all offers of placement are conducted external to the school by the NSW Department of Education and Training High Performing Student Unit.

Year 8–10 selective enrolments are subject to places available and the meeting of academic criteria. Application must be made online with as much supporting evidence as possible.

The suitability of applications will be determined by a selection committee.  The selection committee comprises the Principal and a staff rep.

The selection committee will consider the students to be offered placement and will establish a reserve list in order of priority based on academic merit.

In determining academic merit, the selection committee will consider the following criteria:

  • School reports
  • Results of academic competitions
  • Supporting documentation of high achievement in significant programs such as debating, public speaking, music, dance, drama, maths Olympiad, etc.
  • Supporting evidence from the current school

Temporary visas and international students

For information about eligibility and forms to complete, visit the Temporary Residents Program.

Students seeking placement beyond the school’s published enrolment capacity will be placed on a waiting list by the Placement Panel.  These waiting lists will operate for one year only.

Positions on these waiting lists will not solely be determined by date of entry to the list.

For the purposes of out of area enrolment the following selection criteria will be considered by the selection panel to form a priority list:

  • Siblings already enrolled in the school
  • Medical reasons relating to disability provisions requiring the facilities of the school (eg. disabled access)
  • Compassionate circumstances of a serious nature
  • Academic performance
  • Preference for co-education (for students from the single-sex school drawing areas)
  • Desire to experience curriculum options available at RBSC such as the Music Ensemble Program; Hebrew language; Debating; Dance; student film making; Duke of Edinburgh Award (from Year 9)
  • Any other information provided by the applicants relevant to the enrolment

In addition, senior school non-local enrolments are considered if the established curriculum can accommodate them and the reason relates to availability of subjects or combinations of subjects not available elsewhere.

To apply email the school and address it to the Principal (Mr George Rezcallah). You must include all relevant details concerning the reasons for seeking an out of area enrolment (as listed above). You may wish to include copies of support material.  All applications are treated with confidentiality.

False or Misleading Enrolment Information or Practices:

The “Application to Enrol in a NSW Government School” form requires the applicant to declare the information provided is correct. It also makes it clear the provision of false information can result in the enrolment being reversed. Any decision to reverse an enrolment needs to take into account the special circumstances of the matter. This includes determining if the student was an ‘out of area enrolment’.

If a person provides materially false or misleading information to a school when making an application for enrolment, this is an offence which has a penalty of up to 2 years imprisonment [Section 307B of the Crimes Act 1900].

Distance education

Distance education is an equity program for students who are geographically isolated or whose individual circumstances prevent them from regularly attending school. Students must meet one of the conditions in the Distance Education Enrolment Procedures to be eligible to access this program as a full-time student.

Distance education schools also provide single subjects for students in Years 9 to 12 to enhance curriculum choice. Please contact us for details.
