Have dead batteries in the house? Or perhaps an old computer that is beyond useable? What will you do throw it into the bin?
As Australians, we generate over 650,000 tonnes of electronic waste each year that ends up in landfills. This is a huge environmental problem since E-waste takes years to break down and contains some heavy metals, ultimately causing toxic materials to leach into our environment from soil to waterways! E-waste is becoming such a huge problem in the 21st century especially with the expected growth of technology for the future, putting significant pressure on landfill.
So as the Environment captain of Rose Bay we are excited to announce that Rose Bay has an E-Waste bin! We encourage staff, students, and parents to gather any E-waste around your household and pop it into the E-waste bin located outside the TAS staff room.
Do your part for the environment and ensure your tech is recycled properly at the end of its lifetime to potentially give it a new life.
We’d like to thank Mr. Waugh for organizing the E-waste bins and Waverley Council for proving them.
