Cathy Archer - Principal
Our School
Rose Bay Secondary College was established in 2003 and was founded on the rich educational traditions that existed for more than 50 years at Vaucluse and Dover Heights high schools.
We are a partially selective co-educational college blending a comprehensive local enrolment with two selective classes in each scholastic year from Year 7 to Year 10. Students enter the selective classes based on their results in the statewide selective school entrance test. This ensures that these classes contain the most academically aMelinda Bright ble learners with the curriculum differentiated to cater for their learning needs.
Students at Rose Bay Secondary College achieve academic excellence. All students are encouraged to reach their full potential by a uniquely broad, flexible curriculum that challenges and inspires them. All have opportunities to succeed.
Many of our students achieve outstanding results across all key learning areas in the HSC and regularly attain a creditable ATAR ranking. The academic tradition of success is reflected in our students consistently gaining entry to the country’s leading universities or employment in the field of their choice.
The Inclusive Education Faculty (IEF) comprises of three specialised classes: one Intellectual Moderate (IO) class and two Autism Support classes. These classes provide a supportive, inclusive environment tailored to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of students. Each student has an Individual Transition Plan (ITP) to guide their personalised learning journey, focusing on achieving specific goals and preparing for transitions within and beyond school.
Most IEF students follow Life Skills outcomes designed to suit their individual capabilities. However, a data-driven approach ensures flexibility, enabling some students to access mainstream classes for specific subjects or activities based on their strengths and readiness. This approach promotes inclusivity while fostering opportunities for broader learning and social interaction.
The IEF team consists of a Head Teacher, three class teachers, and a School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) per class, who work collaboratively to support students. This team, in partnership with families and specialists, provides an engaging, safe, and inclusive educational environment that empowers every student to reach their full potential.
Students’ learning is enriched by an exceptionally active creative and performing arts program. Curriculum options include music, dance, drama, film and TV video production, broadcasting and visual arts. The thriving co-curricular program offers many more opportunities for extension in this area.
Sport and physical activity are an integral part of the Rose Bay Secondary College experience. Both Grade and Recreational Sports offer something for everyone. The College holds three sport carnivals a year; Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics.
Our students learn in an outstanding environment. Our exciting new facilities include science laboratories, a theatre and gymnasium and film, music and broadcasting studios. The expansive campus grounds are back dropped by ocean and harbour views, providing excellent opportunities for recreation and outside learning.
The college is equipped with advanced computer technology that supports our ICT learning programs including software development, robotics, film animation and special effects editing, and music composition and editing. School wide wireless technology enables teachers to design creative learning opportunities for students and gives students the ability to access resources and connect with learning opportunities beyond their classrooms.
Our experienced, dedicated staff members provide traditional and innovative teaching in well managed classrooms. Personal and social responsibility is nurtured, respected and rewarded; these values are encapsulated in our school motto: OPPORTUNITY ACHIEVEMENT COMMUNITY
Our college has vibrant, strong links with its community, parents, local primary schools and other community organisations and figures, and these are continually developing.
