College arts captain attends NSW state ensemble

College arts captain

This week College Arts Captain, Jared, represented RBSC in the NSW State Senior Wind Band, performing in the Festival of Instrumental Music concerts at the Sydney Opera House.

This is Jared’s final year with the State Band and the Arts Unit ensemble program where he has held the positions of first flute and piccolo for 8 years. This week’s performances mark the 46th time Jared has performed at the SOH.

The Festival brought together over 700 hundred student instrumentalists from public schools across NSW. The State Senior Band consists of 63 students representing 31 metropolitan and 32 regional public high schools. Each selected student represented their respective schools with pride, wearing the formal uniforms of their schools on stage, creating a sea of colours.

Jared relishes his experience with the Arts Unit ensembles, having formed many friendships through billets as well as regional and overseas tours. Not only has this enhanced his music education, it has helped him better appreciate the diverse cultural and academic backgrounds of his fellow musicians. Jared deeply believes that the resilience and tolerance gained through this experience puts him in good stead for his impending adventure beyond school.
