STEM girls and the GOIT challenge

Stem girls

We had three teams of Year 8 STEM girls enter the GoIT Challenge this year and one of our teams have been chosen to represent our school at UNSW for the Grand Finals next term!

The girls had to solve a problem in the community using technology and pitch their solution to a panel of judges.

Our grand finalists include; Maya, Emma, Nais and Kitty. These girls designed an interactive beach sign called “Sea Better” to help educate beachgoers and tourists about beach safety. The girls created a prototype of their sign on a website and translated it into three other languages. It provides information on rips, blue bottles, lifeguards and basic beach safety rules.

Other participating teams included;

Sophia and Orli who designed a wellbeing app called “Slice of Advice” for teens. It provides anonymous information about Wellbeing issues and free access to teen psychologists.

Sylvie, Gracie and Cecilia who designed a nutrition website called “Nutrition Edition”. It encourages healthy eating in teens, information on eating disorders and aims to debunk fad diets.

Well done to all the girls involved! Good luck to “Sea Better” for the grand finals next term!!
