We had a series of competitive and engaging debates where our students were able to demonstrate their skills against one of the strongest programs in the country. Our wonderful debaters represented themselves and the school wonderfully. A special shout out to our talented Year 7 team who registered their first win in the debut debate.
The topics for the debates were as follows:
· Year 7 – That we should ban gambling on sport.
· Years 8 & 9 - That we should impose a tax on unhealthy food.
· Years 10, 11 & 12 - That we should impose a wealth tax on households with a net worth over $5 million (i.e. an annual tax on a percentage of the total value of all personal assets, minus debts).
A special thanks to all the wonderful students who supported the event as ushers, timekeepers, chair people and the canteen, whose catering was a big hit with the hungry debaters, teachers and parents. It was an outstanding effort by everyone involved and demonstrates the wonderful community we have here at Rose Bay Secondary College.
Over the course of the competition we will highlight a debater who performed at a high standard with our debater of the week award. This week’s winner is Sarah of Year 7 whose powerful performance at 1st speaker went a long way to establishing victory for her team.
On Friday March 6 we are away to Scotts College before returning back to Rose Bay on March 13 and 20 against Cranbrook and Sydney Boys High School respectively. The debates begin from 6:15pm for anyone who is interested in attending.
