Part way into the competition COVID rules of separate cohorts were introduced and the team makeups had to change. Our Year 8 people now have to wait until 2021 to compete, but the Year 9 students combined to make a STEM response, while the Year 10 students combined to make a Social Science film.
All teams had to answer to the following challenge: Something is found. What is it? Who left it there? What are the consequences for the finder?
The STEM team gained an Honours prize while all other schools received only Participation Certificates. Their object was a "bug" (originally made to cure COVID 19) found in a cabbage patch, that mutated to erase the memory of the person that viewed it. Eventually it saw its own reflection which started everything back at the beginning. Part of the solution was to make the "bug" so it could be seen to move.
The STEM members were: Zachary, Isaac, Sophia, Savanna, and Christine.
The Social Science team had a "dogtag" as their object. It led to bullying and violence, but this situation was resolved.
These students were:
Mark, Leonardo, Lam (1), Lam (2),
Brian, Colin, Carlos (and videographer Dwayne)
All filming, props, costumes and film scripts were done without adult assistance. All of these students are highly imaginative and organized, and I look forward to next year's efforts. Unfortunately, this is the last time for the Year 10 boys as this competition is limited to Years 7 to 10. I wish them well for their future senior school experience.
