Environment Week 2022

Environment Week 2022

As the Environment Captains of Rose Bay Secondary College, we truly believe in the importance of educating and spreading awareness, which inspired us to run an Environment Week at our school in Week 9 of Term 2.

We organised workshops including a second-hand clothes swap, and native pot planting in our Bee Garden. However, we wanted to share this cause with people beyond just our school. We were lucky enough to have our hands on a few copies of a picture book called ‘Lenny and the Ants’, a story about food wastage and sustainability. The book, filled with wonderful illustrations and an engaging rhyme, was the perfect way we could extend our Environment Week to some local primary schools.

We were kindly welcomed by intelligent and eager students at Bondi Public School, Bronte Public School, and Rose Bay Public School, where we read the book to students across a number of years. We followed with an open discussion where the students asked and answered questions, ultimately finding ways we could all improve our sustainability on personal and school scales.

“This was such a special opportunity to collaborate around such an important topic and area of passion with students from both schools. The conversations and discussions after reading the story were so valuable as students left empowered knowing they can make a difference and if everyone does, it will all add up to big positive changes.” (Mrs Elasi, Bondi Public School)

This initiative was extremely rewarding to see such intelligent groups of  younger students who shared a similar passion to us. We hope to continue growing the connection with our local primary schools through our schools’ future leaders, who will willingly take upon any opportunities they have to share their passions with the wider community!
