NAIDOC Morning Tea

NAIDOC Morning Tea

On Thursday 28 July, a morning tea was held for Bob Bellear's family to thank them for their continuing support for our school library, dedicated to Bob Bellear, the first One Nation's judge to sit on a Court of Law in NSW.

His wife, Kaye continues to take an active role and interest in social and educational issues. Her contribution is a shining testament to courage and dedication. Linda Burney is a close friend of Kaye Bellear and her family. She is the first Minister for Indigenous Australians and had opened the library in 2007. Unfortunately, she was unable to attend as she was in Canberra for the opening of Parliament.

Bob Bellear's values of "compassion, commitment, inclusion and equity" are an inspiration to our school. Granddaughter, Nia, gave the "Acknowledgement to Country" which had been developed by our group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, Tjara, grandson presented her with a bouquet of native flowers and greenery and the Principal, Melinda Bright, welcomed the family to the school. Later, they were taken to the library to view the physical and digital collection.

Kaye later sent an email thanking the Library staff and the school for the morning tea. In her words, "The library is an absolute credit to you and the school. I dare say no other school...has such a library."
